Martijn Mendel (1994) recently graduated from the acclaimed Royal Academy of Art in the Hague with a nomination for the Heden Start Award. He went on to publish a book and several reputable galleries added his photographs to their collections. His body of work, in which he expertly captures the vulnerability of adolescence, shows a maturity well beyond his age or experience. It offers an intimate examination of what it is like to come of age and to look for a sense of self. Martijn creates meaningful stories in which fashion is used to exemplify the thrills and throes of being young.
